“CULTIVATE THE HABIT OF BEING GRATEFUL”
How often do you think “I’d be happy if I just had…”. Or “I am so unlucky”.
Sometimes our minds can fog and we become unaware of the good we already have. We get so caught up on wanting more, wanting what others have and comparing our lives to others. Just stop. Change your mindset to see the good in any situation, positive or negative. And be grateful for it. In a world where so many horrible things can happen beyond our control we must be grateful for everything we already have and you will feel like the luckiest person in the world.

The Vanadium Loop
Whilst the temperatures outside may have been a little chilli for some (me included), inside at the Vanadium Lounge we’ve been on fire. Busily making small, and not so small, changes to our freshly renovated salon, launching new products and introducing new services to ensure, as always, that we are delivering the highest quality and latest trends the industry has to offer.
CONGRATULATIONS are in order for our gorgeous Cat who has completed her Diploma of Management & Leadership, a huge achievement and I couldn’t be prouder. This is no easy qualification and she has excelled, her new knowledge and skills are already making a difference in our salon.
A relaunch of Schwarzkopf Professional’s BC range has proven extremely successful, not to mention the products are AMAZING, full of key activated ingredients typically found in skin care. TUCKER BROWNE has finally arrived and flying back out the door. This stunning new purposely designed men’s range is the best we’ve ever known, and ladies let me say, it smells divine and looks amazing in the bathroom, the packaging is first class.
Bridie and I have successfully hosted our very first “Vanadium Uncensored” education night. What FUN! For those who were unable to make it we are planning more, from basic fundamentals to more advanced techniques. The feedback from this was fantastic. Keep an eye out on social media for up and coming dates or register your interest in salon or simply shoot us an email.
Wedding season is upon us and wow we have some amazing weddings that we are ever so very privileged to be part of. A little hint to anyone getting married or know of someone planning a wedding, come and have a chat with us or shoot us an email so we can share the many years of experience accumulated, be assured that we do travel and are able to work on location any day of the week and can provide a written quote and a design that is tailored to you and your wedding.
I should currently be back stage at Mercedes Fashion Week in Brisbane as I write for this edition of the loop, glamming up 6-foot glamazons to send down the aisle in the latest collections our incredibly talented Australian designers are launching, but thanks to a mishap involving our beloved 13 year old Golden Labrador, I’m sporting a not so on trend moon boot, making it impossible for me to perform at such an occasion. While I’m missing it terribly and extremely disappointed I couldn’t be there, I’m also very grateful that the extensive ligament damage will heal in time. For those who know me well, know that I have all the patients in the world for others, however when it comes to myself this is one personal characteristic that requires ongoing continuous improvement.
A massive THANK YOU for all the well wishes and patience from all, especially my team whom have had to endure me clumsily and without any grace, struggling noisily around the salon, leaving mess behind me…SORRY!
On a positive I’ve acquired some additional time and have been able to personally test out our new BeHave smoothing treatment…OMG… NEVER has my hair felt smoother or softer, I LOVE IT!!! It’s not cheap, but worth every cent and with After Pay now available in salon there’s no reason to wait. Pricing starts from $499 for short hair.
This year is disappearing, your stylist will be asking if you’d like to book through until Christmas, I’d advise everyone jump on this, as always we will have extended opening hours during December. To my lovely ladies, I’ll be working my butt off until the Saturday before Christmas, then taking what I’m calling long service leave for the majority of January to marry my man, enjoy a honeymoon and spend some quality time with our boys who are growing up faster than I could have ever imagined.
As always I extend my genuine gratitude to our extended Vanadium family for your continued support, allowing us to do what we do and create masterpieces that we love seeing walking down the street.
Stay warm, love life & remember that you’re totally worth it…

All you need to know in one space, simply.
Trending this season… is all about diving into the realm of reinvention. Change and diversity is snowballing all around us and the current Schwarzkopf Professional Essential Looks Collection does not come shy of doing just that. So here it is, the collection defining our time, expanding our minds and creating history by simply…
Meet the three trends…
Think colour. Think bold and bright. Then intensify that by infinity. The random rebel trend can’t help but make you look twice yet hide your stares as this look is so intense its texture, short styled and feathered cuts are intimidating. Inspired by the underground club culture, these rebels are no longer hibernating throughout the day. The style is taking to the streets and not holding back impact with not only hair but fashion of bold prints, bright metallics, textures and decorative details with no limits.
In a time where talk of self-love and acceptance is high the real me trend reflects this time of self-discovery. Highlighting the beauty of natural muted tones and the purity in shades of nude this look is all about an understated look… yet not effortless. REAL ME involves styled, free flowing hair whether you prefer it to flow sleek or with a little volume to reflect your authentic mood.
Fuelled by this time of cultural acceptance and diversity this trend is expansive and proud not only spiritually but physically. That’s right the hair is big! Curls are taking over the world and they have never been styled so natural and had greater volume. Naturally curly haired people have never been able to express their look so loudly and those with straight have never aimed so high for the natural large, curly look! Colour is expressed painterly with crimson and cool golds.
Oh, did I say just three trends…? Hold Up! We have a little bonus trend for this Essential Looks Collection which excites all of us at The Vanadium Lounge the most!
Schwarzkopf Professional have handed over their Igora Royal colour portfolio to the world’s top digital influences to create a POWER COLAB which has produced AMAZING, REinvented red and nude tones. This co-lab goes by the name of #royaltake over and we have loved getting our hands on these! Who’s ready to play colour!?
2018 Colour Forecast
A new year brings to us a new colour forecasted by Pantone Colour Institute. This forecast takes us past the storms, through the clouds and in to the light of the greater galaxy. This shade is dramatic in symbolizing non-conformity and brings our awareness to the greater things around us. Fueling our creativity, potential and explorative natures this year’s colour forecast inspires us to pursue all desires and question the unknown.
Product… if only there was one that did everything we asked, sculpted every look we wanted and tamed all of our manes. There are endless amounts of products out there for us to access. They claim that they can do all sorts making it understandably overwhelming to pick the right one for your needs. So much so that your own bathroom cupboard becomes overwhelming to look at! We like to break it down for you and educate you honestly about our products.
We do get excited over many things here at The Vanadium Lounge and new product packaging is one of them… but the excitement was tripled when we received our first delivery of the not only newly designed product packaging but their newly designed and improved contents! Schwarzkopf Professional really is Reinventing hair this year in every aspect they can and they couldn’t have nailed it any better! We are thrilled to educate you on the newly updated BC product ranges providing and matching you with the optimum care for your hair.

Quote – “The more shampoo suds the better”.
YES… and NO!
Not to confuse you but… Shampoo which creates large amounts of foamy suds is often an indication that it is filled with harsh detergents which can damage and coat your hair in substances such as silicone. This can be avoided by using a sulphate free shampoo. Sulphate shampoos create very little suds however, does foam up a little more when the hair is clean. So be safe and follow the golden rule… Always shampoo twice!
THIS MYTH IS BUSTED!
Seven weeks into my CERT IV of screen & Media and the Academy of makeup and I am loving it! Over the past weeks we have been learning about colour theory, face shapes, contouring, highlighting, client consultations, bases, all types of liner and multiple eye looks.
We have recently learnt how to perfect the “no makeup” makeup look which I am obsessed with.
Here are my tips/tricks on how to master the “no makeup” makeup look.
- Instead of using a foundation use a BB cream, CC cream or a tinted moisturizer
- Use a green based concealer to conceal redness
- Use a pink/red based concealer to conceal darkness around the eyes
- Use cream-based products such as a cream contour, cream blush and cream highlight
- Only powder the areas that get oil during the day such as the t-zone
- Lightly stroke an eyebrow powder/pomade/pencil (whatever you personally like to use) through the brows
- Curl lashes and apply a light coat of mascara
- Finish off with lining the lips with a lip liner that matches your lip colour and apply a nude lipstick/lip gloss or simply your favourite lip balm
A few of my favourite products I like to use to create the “no makeup” makeup look are…
- NARS – Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser
- BECCA – Shimmering Skin Perfecter
- NARS – Liquid Blush
- HOURGLASS – Brow Sculpting Pencil

Uniting Emergency Relief Update
Thank You in advanced for supporting the Emergency Relief center and us.
Below is from Janice – Emergency Relief Officer
Uniting’s Emergency Relief (ER) is the provision of assistance to people in need. It consists of the provision of financial and material aid to meet an immediate need and a referral service link to people with specialist community services. Multiple misfortunes can sometimes contribute to a crisis that leads to financial stress and assistance is usually provided through:
- Financial and/or material aid to meet an immediate need e.g. this could include food vouchers, assistance with utility bills, food parcels, clothing or household goods, toiletries and blankets.
- A service which assists people to identify the options available to them in response to their needs.
Our program offers direct assistance to people with dignity and compassion, while encouraging strategies towards self-reliance and resilience through referrals and budgeting. We can assist people in the areas of Kingston, Huon, Cygnet, Hobart City and Bridgewater/Gagebrooke.
What we’re Talkin’ bout (and loving):
SALON PAY!! Say whaaat!?
We are super excited to now have Salon Pay here at The Vanadium Lounge. What is it you may ask? Salon Pay works exactly the same way as After Pay which you are most likely more familiar with. In fact it is that exact that your services/product purchases are purchased through your After Pay account.
For those of you who are totally lost let us explain how it works… Think of how you layby an item. You pay off certain repayments then receive your product once completed! Well, Afterpay is just that BUT you receive your product/service first! This allows you to get your hair done whenever you like without the stress or worry of having to pay for it in a lump sum amount. You simply pay your first of 4 “instalments” on the day and gradually pay for your service over a 4 week period, interest free and no strings attached!
You are able to use Salon Pay on services and product purchase over the amount of $150.
